In early 2020 The New Canaan Museum & Historical Society set out to create a new initiative: October4design, an annual month-long celebration of architecture, art, design and the community where it happens. October4design’s concept is to engage and coordinate with the many community, cultural and educational institutions in New Canaan to create a host of dynamic programming honoring our vibrant creative history and future.

The COVID pandemic has required the Museum to pivot and create a line-up of virtual programs. We kick off the month with a virtual presentation by French Bull founder Jackie Shapiro and her vivid designs. Please check out the Calendar of Events to see what else is planned for 2020. There are lectures, art openings, Glass House grounds passes, photo contest and more! Plus, this year includes two lecture series that focus on the strength, vibrancy and inclusivity of this community – The Start of Change: Addressing Racism, and Women Leaders of New Canaan: Celebrating the Legacy of the 19th Amendment.

October4design 2021 is already in the works! The Modern House Day Tour + Symposium is on for October 22 + 23, 2021. We will have architectural safari tours for kids, musical concerts, lectures, garden tours, design competitions, workshops, exhibitions and MORE!
